We can't think of a better way for you to learn about the University of Pittsburgh than a personal visit to campus.

To schedule one of these visits you can:

Freshman Group Information Sessions
  • 45-60 minute group presentations about the University of Pittsburgh, academic programs, admissions criteria, the admissions process, financial aid, and a question and answer period.
  • Directed toward freshman applicants
  • Offered Monday-Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
    • July 9th through August 9th, if you are coming to campus for the Freshman Group Information Session, you might want to consider coming early or staying late for:
      • Honors College Session
        • 45-60 minute presentation about the University of Pittsburgh Honors College experience. We will highlight the eligibility requirements, scholarship opportunities and what makes the Honors College unique.
        • Offered Monday-Thursday at 9:00 a.m.

      • Outside the Classroom Curriculum
        • 45-60 minutes presentation about the University-wide initiative designed to educate the whole student through the completion of a series of programs, activities, and experiences that complement each student's academic studies.
        • Offered Monday-Thursday at 11:00 a.m.

      • 'Why Pitt' Student Panel
        • 45-60 minute presentation is an opportunity to interact one-on-one with currently enrolled Pitt students. You will be able to ask questions and hear about their experiences as to why they chose the University of Pittsburgh.

Note: the international student admission process requires some different steps than that for a domestic student. Therefore, international students might find a personal appointment with one of our intenational student admission counselors more helpful than a group information session.


Group Visits
  • If you are interested in scheduling a visit for a group of 10 or more students, you must contact the the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid Undergraduate Visitor Center directly at (412) 624-7717.
  • Group Visits must be scheduled at least two weeks in advanced and can only be scheduled Monday-Friday based on availability.

Transfer Information Sessions
  • For students who have attended another university and wishing to transfer their enrollment to the University of Pittsburgh.
  • 45-60 minute group presentations about the University of Pittsburgh, credit transfer policies, academic programs, admissions criteria, the admissions process, financial aid, and a question and answer period.
  • Offered Tuesdays and Fridays at 12:00 p.m.
  • Selected Saturdays at 9:00 a.m.
    • May 5
  • Held in Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Make a reservation

Sample A Class
  • Sit in on a University class
  • Available weekdays during the fall, spring and summer terms
  • To participate, check the current schedule and report directly to the designated building and room. Most classes are 50 minutes long.
  • On some days, examinations will be administered. We have no way of monitoring that and suggest that you quietly leave the class if this is the case.
  • Freshmen and transfers
  • You do not need to register for Sample A Class

Personal Appointments (Freshmen and Transfers*)
  • One-on-one meeting with an Admissions and Financial Aid Counselor
  • Beneficial for discussing personal questions or extenuating circumstances
  • Individual interviews are NOT required
  • Offered Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.
  • Held in Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Allow about 30-60 minutes

International students, please let our Visit Center Specialists know that you are an international student so they can arrange a personal appointment with one of our international student admissions counselors.


Campus Tours
  • Walking tours of the campus for freshmen and transfers
  • Guides are Pitt Pathfinders - currently enrolled students
  • If you attend a group information session, the tour will leave directly after the presentation
  • Get a student's view of campus life
  • During most times of the year, tours are given Monday-Friday at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.
    Note: Tours will be available at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. ONLY on April 23-27, April 30-May 4, May 7-11, and August 22-24.
    • May 14th through August 9th, we are also offering the following special tours:
      • Special Tour: Music/Arts/Theater
        • Enjoy a 45-minute campus tour that will allow students interested in studio arts, theater, film and music to see some of the many venues--studios, theaters, exhibits--that are important parts of these majors.
        • Offered Monday-Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
        • Make a reservation
      • Special Tour: Sciences
        • This specialty 45-minute tour will focus on the sciences--biological, chemistry, physics, neuroscience-- and allow students to see buildings, classrooms and labs specific to those majors.
        • Offered Monday-Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

    • July 9th through August 9th, we are also offering:
      • City of Pittsburgh Bus Tour
        • Allow approximately 75 minutes, depending on city traffic, construction or other events that may cause unforeseen delays.
        • Offered Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
        • Make a reservation
  • Allow 60-90 minutes
  • Note: We strongly recommend wearing comfortable shoes
  • Tours leave from the lobby of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid in Alumni Hall

Upper Campus Tours
  • Shuttle/walking tours of the Upper Campus for freshmen and transfers
  • You will see the Peterson Events Center, athletic and fitness centers
  • Guides are Pitt Pathfinders - currently enrolled students
  • You DO NOT need to register for a tour
  • If you attend a group information session, the tour will leave directly after the presentation
  • During most times of the year, tours are given Monday-Friday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., after the Group Information Session
    Note: At some times, tours will be offered less frequently due to student schedules, such as during mid-terms and finals week, for example. If timing is critical to you, please call to confirm that your desired tour time is available on the day you visit.
  • Allow 60 minutes
  • Note: We strongly recommend wearing comfortable shoes
  • Tours leave from the lobby of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid in Alumni Hall

College of Business Administration (CBA) Information Sessions
  • Monday - Friday at 1:30 p.m.
  • No need to call ahead; just go to 2100 Sennott Square
  • You will have the opportunity to speak with an advisor from CBA
  • Allow about 60 minutes
  • Designed for Freshmen.
  • It is recommended that prospective transfer students schedule an individual appointment with a representative from the College of Business Administration by calling 412-383-9600.

Swanson School of Engineering Tours
  • Monday and Friday at 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Tuesday - Thursday at 1 p.m.
  • Please note, our Swanson tours are not offered during University holidays and breaks for students. For the summer 2012 term there will be no tours offered on, May 1st through 4th, and August 20th through 24th.
  • 152b Benedum Hall - Please check-in at the main reception desk in the lobby.
  • Tour the engineering facilities, labs and classrooms along with hearing information on the freshman engineering curriculum and engineering student services with a current Pitt engineering student. A freshman engineering advisor will also be available after the tour for questions.
  • If you are planning on visiting other than the times listed above please call 412-624-9825 to make an appointment
  • Allow about 90 minutes

School of Nursing Information Sessions/Tours
  • Freshman Sessions: Monday and Friday only, at 2 p.m.
  • Transfer Session: Tuesday only, at 4 p.m.
  • No need to call ahead, just go to 239 Victoria Hall (Student Services Office)
  • Meet with a School of Nursing representative and tour the anatomy/physiology, nursing skills and human simulation labs
  • Allow about 60 minutes

University Honors College (UHC) Information Sessions
  • Monday and Friday only at 1:00 p.m.
  • Freshmen and transfers welcome
  • No need to call ahead; just go to the 35th Floor of the Cathedral of Learning
  • Learn about the UHC, honors classes, the honors degree, special advising, summer field programs in Mongolia and Wyoming, and other unique academic opportunities.
  • Session is informal; stay as long as you like.

Study Abroad Office Open Houses
  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • No need to call ahead; just go to 802 William Pitt Union
  • Freshmen and transfers welcome
  • Learn about the opportunities to internationalize your education. The University Center for International Studies has certificate programs in African, Asian, European Union, Latin American, Russian, and East European, Western European, and Global Studies. You can study abroad as early as the summer after your freshman year.
  • Allow about 45 minutes

You may encounter delays due to road construction during your spring or summer visit to the University of Pittsburgh. Please consult the PennDOT website for information about closures and detours.

For your convenience, we have listed a few of the many hotels available in the University of Pittsburgh area. Please call the hotel directly for reservations. When making your reservations, please request the reduced rate for those families attending Pitt programs.
