If you are a graduate or professional student in the Law School, the School of Medicine
or the School of Dental
Medicine, you must apply for financial aid directly with your school. Please
contact your school directly concerning
financial aid programs and procedures.
Financial aid available to graduate students varies widely among graduate and professional schools and programs.
Please contact your school directly for more information about
assistance that may be available to graduate students in your school or department.
If you are a graduate and professional school student (excluding Medical School, Dental School or Law School) and want to
apply for a Stafford Student Loan or Graduate PLUS Loan, you will need to complete the following steps to be considered for
and receive loan assistance:
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Prospective graduate students are encouraged to complete this form not later than June 1.
- Complete and return a University of Pittsburgh
to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. Please be sure to have your completed FAAS signed by the
graduate student representative in your school before submitted it to our office.

- If requested, please a copy of your most recent U.S. Income Tax Returns, Form 1040 or 1040A or 1040EZ to the Office of
Admissions and Financial Aid as part of the U.S. Department of Education Verification process.
- Complete, sign and return the
Master Promissory Note
(MPN) for your Stafford Loan if you are a first time borrower or if your earlier MPN has expired.
- Complete any loan applications for Grad PLUS or other alternative loans by June 1. Complete, sign and return required
Promissory Notes and other paperwork for these additional loans.
- Complete the
Entrance Interview
by July 1 if you have been awarded funds from the Stafford Student Loan program.
You must complete an Entrance Interview even if you have done so at a previous school.
No loan funds will be disbursed to you until the Entrance Interview requirement is completed.
