What to Expect
After You Apply…
As soon as admissions reviews begin in early fall, you can expect one of the following: You may be:
- Offered admission
- Asked to submit additional information such as senior year SAT/ACT results and/or a mid-year grade report
- Notified that your decision will be
deferred until later in the year.
- Offered admission to a regional campus
- Denied admission
Students eligible for academic scholarships and/or graduate school guarantees will also be notified of their eligibility
on a rolling basis.
Because the University of Pittsburgh is a five-campus system, we make every effort to link promising students not
admissible to the Pittsburgh campus to one or more of our regional campuses through our
Options Program. Our four regional campuses share many major University
resources with the Pittsburgh campus that would not be available at many smaller colleges. We strongly recommend that you
rank your preference of alternative campuses on the admission application. If the committee is unable to offer admission to
the Pittsburgh campus, it will make every effort to consider you for admission to your preferred regional campus.
What Comes Next?
With every step you take in our admissions process, we let you know what to expect next. Admitted prospective freshmen
will be asked to pay an enrollment deposit fee—a combined $200.00 tuition deposit and $100.00 PittStart fee for your
academic orientation, placement testing and first term course registration. In order to reserve your place in the
incoming class and to be guaranteed on-campus housing
you will need to submit this fee no later than May 1.
Note: Prospective freshmen who are admitted for the Fall Term and pay their $300 enrollment fee by May 1 are guaranteed
on-campus housing for three years.
Financial Aid
Starting in mid-March, the financial aid side of our operation starts processing financial aid applications for
need-based aid. Provided you apply by the suggested FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) filing date of
March 1, we should be able to inform you of your financial aid eligibility well before the May 1 enrollment fee deadline.
To get more detailed information on the process of filing for financial aid, visit the
process of filing for financial aid.
If you have questions at any time, contact us. Remember...the admissions and aid process is a two-way street.

The City Is Our Campus—Come Visit!
A campus visit is critical to making an informed choice. If you haven't visited the Pittsburgh campus and the city, please do, and feel free to bring family and friends. In the meantime, feel free to take a virtual tour of campus. We provide numerous options, including group information sessions, individual appointments, campus tours with our Pitt Pathfinders (currently enrolled students), and the opportunity to sit in on a class. The Come Visit Web site will give you a preview idea of when and where these different activities take place.
We look forward to meeting you!
