Campus
The University of Pittsburgh’s campus is located in Oakland, one of the cultural hubs of Pittsburgh and about three miles from the downtown business district of the city. As a Pitt student you have unlimited access to our public transit system, free of charge, anywhere in the county! On Pitt’s 132-acre campus, you are within 10 to 15 walking minutes of most campus facilities. If you want to ride rather than walk, you can take advantage of an extensive bus and shuttle system. Pittsburgh

Cultural Haven
The University of Pittsburgh is an integral part of this landscape, offering students access to the area's lively culture. In Oakland, students can take advantage of the Carnegie Complex, which consists of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Music Hall, and Carnegie Library. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden, and 450-acre Schenley Park, one of the largest parks within an inner-city on the east coast, are within walking distance. Admission to the garden and conservatory are free to Pitt students with a valid student ID. Students enjoy tennis, golf, swimming, and free movies at the park during the summer and ice-skating throughout the winter.

Kuntu Repertory Theatre
Creates and produces theatre that explores African American culture from a historical, spiritual, and political perspective.

Black Dance Workshop
Performs a wide range of ethnic dance styles and techniques such as jazz, African, spiritual, and Dunham Technique.

Manchester Craftsmen's Guild
MCG Jazz's mission is to preserve, present and promote jazz. Through our performances, we strengthen the long time Pittsburgh jazz community and contribute to the overall cultural and artistic diversity of the region. Through our live recordings we reach a national and international audience – a market we'd like to grow. Through our educational programs we are able to have students attend the concerts at low or no cost to them, make artists available for master classes and provide opportunities for internships in production and marketing.

Pitt Jazz Ensemble
The University of Pittsburgh Jazz Ensemble, founded by Dr. Nathan Davis in 1969, is recognized internationally as one of the best collegiate Jazz groups performing today. Under the direction of Dr. Davis, the ensemble has performed around the globe, garnering critical praise and providing native audiences with the exciting sounds of Jazz.

Pitt African Music and Dance Ensemble
The Ensemble, under the direction of part-time dance instructor, Oronde S. Sharif, promotes educational and creative presentations, performances, and workshops which inform the community about the culture of Africa and the Diaspora.

If you want to leave campus to catch a movie, see a Broadway show, or do some shopping we provide free access to the public transportation system for all of our students! We also offer Pitt Arts which connects students to the vibrant Pittsburgh cultural community. Pitt Arts has enriched and deepened the quality of life for students at the University of Pittsburgh through engagement of theatre, ballet, symphony and opera. Trips to arts events for Pitt undergraduates, which include free tickets, transportation, and a catered reception, feature extraordinary encounters with international artists and thinkers in the arts. Students are able to engage in dialogue with arts leaders and learn how the arts can drive change and forge social bonds as well as entertain. Pitt Arts believes that students become more well-rounded people and invested global citizens through their exposure to the fine arts. Ethnic Communities and Spiritual Life
Pittsburgh is a city that owes its traditions, languages and cultures to the immigrants who helped build it. There are several ethnic communities here from a variety of religious backgrounds. Regardless of your religious upbringing, there are a number of worship opportunities available for you in the Pittsburgh area, as well as on our campus.

Not only is our campus and city a cultural haven, but Pittsburgh also has a wide variety of entertainment, shopping, restaurants, movie theatres, amusement parks, and much more! Here’s a sneak peak at just some of the area attractions:

SouthSide Works
SouthSide Works, located just five minutes from campus, offers one-of-a kind national and local retailers, exclusive restaurants and high-end urban living units. In addition to shopping and dining, SouthSide Works has a movie cinema offering discounts to students.

Station Square
Set at the confluence of the three rivers with breathtaking views of the city’s skyline, Station Square offers over 60 specialty shops, restaurants, and nightclubs.

The Waterfront
“Where Pittsburgh comes to Life.” One of the areas newest additions with dining, comedy club, movie theater, and department stores.

Shadyside
The neighborhood bordering Oakland, Shadyside, is known for its great shopping and is home to upscale stores and boutiques, as well as national chains. Also, students enjoy cafes, local restaurants and nightlife.

Squirrel Hill
Squirrel Hill is a large residential neighborhood also bordering Oakland. Squirrel Hill is considered the hub of the Jewish Community in Pittsburgh. Students enjoy the 150 acres that make up Frick Park as well as the many restaurants, boutiques, bookstores and coffee houses located here.

Kennywood Park
America's Finest Traditional Amusement Park; beautifully landscaped and designated as a National and State Historic Landmark. The park features thirty-one major rides, three water rides, thirty-five various games, and eighteen different refreshment stands throughout the park.

Sandcastle Water Park
Sandcastle Waterpark is located along the scenic shores of the Monongahela River, just a short drive from downtown Pittsburgh in the Waterfront Entertainment Complex. Sandcastle is the perfect place for your "Vacation in a Day"! This is the best summer outing deal in Pittsburgh!

Professional Sports
Enjoy sports? Pittsburgh is synonymous with sports champions. A new baseball stadium, PNC Park, which opened in 2001 and is ranked as the #1 major league baseball park by ESPN, continues to thrill Pittsburgh Pirates fans who still revere legendary Pittsburgh players like Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell. Likewise, the new football stadium, Heinz Field, houses not only the Pittsburgh Steelers but our nine time national champion Panthers. Across town at the Mellon Arena, the Pittsburgh Penguin Sydney Crosby continues to "wow" fans of all ages as an international NHL superstar. We can't forget the newest editions to the sports family; the Pittsburgh Riverhounds soccer team and the Pittsburgh Passion women's football team.
