Tuition and Fees

For detailed information about the current cost of tuition and fees at the University of Pittsburgh, click here.

Room and Board

Room charges range from $2050 to $3150 per term, based on specific accommodations. Meal plans generally range from $1790 to $2800 per term, based on the number of dining passes and dinner dollars selected. For detailed information about housing and meal plan options available to the University of Pittsburgh students, visit Panther Central.

Other Expenses

Students can expect to incur additional expenses for books and supplies ($600-$1000 per year), transportation, and personal and miscellaneous items. These expenses vary, depending on personal circumstances. Items such as clothing, entertainment, telephone calls, travel, etc. need to be considered.

Study Abroad Expenses

Students participating in a University recognized and sponsored Study Abroad program can request that their Cost of Attendance for the Study Abroad term be reviewed. Should those educational expenses exceed those incurred in a typical on campus term, a student's Demonstrated Financial Need may increase. An increase in this Cost of Attendance will not increase the student's eligibility for grants, scholarships or other campus-based funds. It may, however, enable the student to borrow additional funds through the Stafford Student Loan program, the Parent PLUS program or other alternative loan sources.

Students interested in applying for additional loan funds to assist with Study Abroad costs should visit the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and speak with a Financial Aid Advisor. No appointments are necessary; students are seen on a walk-in basis from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.

If you participate in a Study Abroad program and are the recipient of a tuition-based scholarship, it is a University policy that Pennsylvania residents can receive a scholarship amount up to the equivalent of PA tuition charges for the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences (A&S); and out-of-state scholarship recipients, an amount up to in-state PA A&S tuition plus 50%. If your scholarship also includes room and board, your award will be limited to an amount up to the fees for a standard double on-campus room and an average meal plan, as used in the financial aid awarding guidleines.

Computer Purchase Expenses

Students who purchase a computer may be eligible to have an increase made to their Cost of Attendance. For each school year, purchases made after April 15 (prior to the start of the fall term) will be considered and receipts must be provided. Receipts must clearly indicate that a computer was purchased and when. Students should expect to pay between $1500 - $3000 for the computer and related hardware. The Financial Aid Office will limit the total amount of the cost of attendance adjustment to $3000.

In order for these expenses to be reviewed, please complete the Cost of Attendance Increase for Computer Purchase Expenses form and return it with the appropriate documentation to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
